Frequently Asked Questions about Birthday Parties

Do my guests need to pay the $5 parking fee?
You will receive free parking passes for your guests.

Can we bring food?

Yes, you may bring food to serve at the yurt (there are tables and chairs). However, note that there are no kitchen facilities or supplies, no water or electricity, and you need to remove all trash.

How far is it from parking lot to the yurt? Can we drive to the yurt?

It is a ¼ mile walk from the Nature Center to the yurt. After the snow has melted, you may use the access road to drive food & supplies closer to yurt, but there is still a short walk to the yurt. We recommend you visit before deciding.

What about bad weather?

No refunds are made on birthday parties unless cancellation is made at least 7 days prior to the event, or is due to dangerous weather conditions.

Is the yurt heated? Why can’t we celebrate a winter birthday?
The yurt is heated. Heater may not be adequate for the coldest part of winter.

Is the yurt heated?

Yes, we do have a gas stove to take off the chill during the cooler spring and fall months.  However, since the stove is not able to provide enough heat during our coldest months, we do not rent it from November through February.

Does the yurt have electricity?

Not normally for birthday parties. We do have a generator capable of running projectors, computers and a few lights. Use of the generator is allowed only if prior arrangements are made with management. There is an additional fee for use of the generator.

What are the choices for topics?

Popular nature topics are dinosaurs, animal tracks, birds, insects and spiders. Nature-themed crafts are also an option, depending on the number of children and their ages. Contact the naturalist to discuss options for your child’s birthday party.

Can I rent the yurt without the naturalist program?
Yes, the regular fee is $50/hour with a $75 refundable security deposit.  Please go to the classroom yurt rental page for more information.
