BORE TIDE AT TURNAGAIN ARM
Join volunteer Liza Sanden at Bird Point on the Turnagain Arm to observe
the bore tide. Bore tide is estimated to pass Bird Point around 6:30pm (+/- 30
minutes). Stop by the information table to learn more about the bore tide and
Turnagain Arm natural history while you "wait for the wave." Bring
binoculars if you have them. Free program; $5 state park parking fee.

WILDFLOWERS with
VERNA PRATT
Alaska Wildflower expert Verna Pratt leads this popular hike along the Iditarod
and Albert Loop trail looking at what's blooming now. Free program; $5 parking
for non-members.

EVENING BEAVER WALK
Join volunteer naturalist Beth Baker on a 2.5 mile hike to view an active
beaver colony. Meet in front of the Nature Center, and bring binoculars if you
have them. Note: this program is not appropriate for small children because of
distance walked and need for quiet to observe beavers. No registration
necessary; $5 parking for non-members.

NATURAL HISTORY WORKSHOP ($20 fee; Registration required)
The Nature Center's Chief Naturalist Ute Olsson will cover Geology,
Ecology and Botany of Southcentral Alaska. Workshop is free to INCPA
participants (Interpretive Naturalist Program of Alaska); all others pay $20.

BEAR SAFETY
Bear behavior expert Rick Sinnott of Alaska Department of Fish and Game
gives an indoor presentation on Alaska bear behavior and how to stay safe living
and recreating in bear country. Free program; $5 parking fee for non-members.

NATURAL HISTORY WORKSHOP ($20 fee; Registration required)
This is part 2 of the Natural History Workshop of Southcentral Alaska, covering
mammals, birds, fish, amphibians and insects. Workshop is free to INCPA

CROW PASS MARATHON CROSSING
Racers start this grueling marathon on the Girdwood side of the trail and finish
at the Nature Center. Racers begin arriving soon after 10am. Come cheer them on!

FAMILY-FRIENDLY HIKE
(Free; Registration required)
Volunteer Liza Sanden will lead families on this leisurely hike around
the Albert Loop trail, total of 3 miles. Bring water and a snack. Half-way
through the hike you'll get to take a break on the gravel bar, and skip some
stones into the Eagle River. Limited to the first 16 participants (all ages) who
call 694-2108 to register. Free program; $5 parking for non-members.

BEAVER WALK
(Free; registration required)
This is your last chance to go on a 2.5 mile naturalist-guided walk to view an
active beaver colony, if the Albert Loop is still open before salmon arrive.

BOTANY FOR KIDS: Roses everywhere
Junior Naturalist Program (Grades K-6)
Learn about the rose family - they're everywhere. Did you know apples are roses?
We'll start examining the botanical details indoors, then walk the Rodak trail
in search of representatives of the rose family. Free program; $5 parking for
non-members.

ASTROPHOTOGRAPHY WORKSHOP
($25 fee; Registration required)
Chris Erickson will teach hands-on techniques for Astrophotography.
Participants should have a digital SLR (Canon or Nikon preferred) and bring
their laptop computer with software for photo editing, image processing software
(Adobe, Phase One LE, or other). Participants will receive complimentary
astrophotography tools and software. Limited to 10-15 participants (minimum of 3
required): call 694-2108 to register.
July 27, Sunday, 11am-5pm
HOT DOG ROAST AT HERITAGE FALLS (registration required)
Join volunteers Bob and Ann Fisher for an 11-mile round trip hike and a
hot dog roast at scenic Heritage Falls. Food for the event will be provided by
Bob and Ann. The terrain is fairly level with an elevation gain of about 600
feet. Hikers should be in good shape and have completed a hike of similar
length. Hikers are advised to bring a daypack with snacks, water, wind/rain
clothing and warm layers. Call the Nature Center for trail conditions. The hike
is limited to the first 12 people (at least 18 years old) who register by
calling 694-2108. Well behaved dogs are welcome on the hike.

INSECTS OF ALASKA
Naturalist Giselle Bergeron presents Alaska's insects: first with an
indoor presentation (slides and specimen collection), followed by a short walk
on the Rodak Nature Trail to observe insects in the field. Free program; $5
parking for non-members.
