Organized Group Camping at Rapids Camp

The Nature Center requires that organized groups obtain a permit to camp at Rapids Camp.  Increased vandalism, destruction of forest resources and inappropriate camping techniques have lead to our decision to monitor the site on a regular basis.  Thanks to an Eagle Scout project, the camping site has been moved about 300 yards away from the main Iditarod/Crow Pass Trail. The site has a picnic table, a food storage locker, a metal fire ring and space for up to 6 tents.  The maximum number of persons allowed to camp in the area is 24.

All organized groups should review proper camping techniques prior to their trip.  For more information on these techniques please visit Int.org

Groups are expected to

LEAVE NO TRACE AND PACK OUT EVERYTHING THAT WAS BROUGHT IN.

NOT CUT LIVE TREES OR OTHER VEGETAION.

USE ONLY DEAD, DOWNED WOOD FOR CAMPFIRES. WE HIGHLY ENCOURAGE GROUPS TO BRING FIREWOOD.

Please respect and care for the site so that it may be enjoyed by others safely.

Organized groups should use the availablity calendar to reserve your date and make a payment of $25/night. Our intent is that this fee will fund a future outhouse in the area.

Individuals and families do not pay a fee, but are asked to let us know when they plan to use the area to avoid a conflict with an organized group.  Organized groups with a valid permit will have priority use of the area, picnic table and food storage locker.  Let us know by emailing us at info (at) ernc.org.  We'll do our best to let you know if a group will be using the site.

Thank you and enjoy your camping experience.
