In August 2018 a hiker lost on the ridge north of Mt. Baldy called 911. It should have been an easy search, bringing him and his big dog back to the trailhead
before sunset (and before the torrential rainstorm). Instead it turned into an all-night grovel through the devil’s club of Fire Creek. What went wrong?
Dean Knapp of the Alaska Mountain Rescue Group, incident commander for this search, will analyze what should have been done, what was actually done,
and how you can help rescuers find you if you are ever in this situation.
