Our Solar System has four terrestrial planets: Mercury, Venus, Earth and Mars. All are made primarily of rock and metal, but that’s where the similarities
end. Why is Mercury an airless world? Why did Venus turn into a searing hell? Why did the Earth turn out “just right?” And why was Mars once like Earth,
but now a frozen wasteland? UAA astronomer Dr. Travis A. Rector will talk about the unique histories of each of these planets, and what insights they can give us into the Earth’s future.
