Dick Griffith Matching Challenge and AK Public Media Documentary
Every dollar donated to the Eagle River Nature Center from November 15, 2017 thru March 31, 2018 will be matched by Dick Griffith.
Dick is legendary in Alaska for his many outdoor adventures. At the Nature Center he is recognized for his volunteerism and philanthropy.
We are also partnering with Alaska Public Media to help them raise funds to complete a documentary film entitled “Canyons & Ice: The Last Run of Dick Griffith”. The
film is a captivating and inspiring story of a man who has traveled solo more than 6,000 miles across the wilderness of Alaska and the
Canadian Arctic. He is a legend in the Grand Canyon, where among other feats, he was the first to row Lava Falls in an inflatable raft
in 1951. The culmination of this film captures Dick rowing through Lava Falls at the age of 89, becoming the oldest person in boating history
to navigate that descent. The documentary will be aired on PBS stations throughout Alaska.
