Does my group need a reservation to hike on our own ?
All groups over 20 persons must have a reservation -- this is a Chugach State Park requirement. Non-profit groups such as schools, camps
or scouts (maximum group size of 75 persons) looking for day hikes on Nature Center trails can make their reservations directly through us. Larger
groups and overnight trips need to get a permit from Chugach State Park.Even if your group is under 20, it is still a good idea to contact us. Especially during the warm season, there may be conflicts if your visit coincides with other groups or special events. We'll try to help you find a time when you can enjoy the trails at a less busy time!
Cost for groups over 20:
$1/person plus $5 parking per vehicle (no charge for school bus). Maximum group size is 75 people. NOTE: An adult chaperone is required for every 5 children under the age of 10.
Lunch/ Shelter/ Rental options:
Self-guided groups may eat their sack lunches at the outdoor picnic tables behind the Nature Center -- be aware that these cannot be reserved and are available
to the general public on a "first come, first serve" basis. Other choices are to eat lunch along the Eagle River (see trail map).
Please note that the viewing decks along the Rodak Trail are NOT available for large groups to eat lunch. If you're looking for an indoor shelter,
there is the option of renting the classroom yurt which can be heated in cool weather.
