Current Trail Conditions

ALL TRAILS at the NATURE CENTER are HIKING/SKIING USE ONLY.

See exception below for Winter Fat Tire Access to the river corridor.

Trail Conditions for: Tuesday, 5/12/2026

Rodak Trail:  Great condition for hiking.

Albert Loop Trail:  Some lingering mud patches (especially in shady areas) but otherwise great condition for hiking. Use the Bypass Trail to avoid possible trail flooding due to river overflow on an old section of the Albert Loop (trails are signed).

Historic Iditarod Trail/Crow Pass Trail (Nature Center Trailhead to Echo Bend only):  Some lingering mud patches but otherwise great hiking.

Dew Mound Trail:
Some lingering smud patches but otherwise good hiking.  Watch for orange trail markers on the trees to follow the trail. Dew Mount Trail is skinnier, "rootier", and rockier than our other trails.

Rapids Cutoff Trail:
 Good condition for hiking.

Mountain Meadow Cutoff Trail:
  Good condition for hiking.

Fat Tire Bike Eagle River Corridor Access: CLOSED for the season.  Biking IS NOT PERMITTED on any ERNC trails during the summer months.

Dog owners: Please remember to keep your dog(s) on a leash on the Rodak Trail, Albert Loop Trail and first mile of the Dew Mound Trail, and Iditarod Trail. Please be responsible trail users and pickup after your dogs. Bags are available at the trail head sign at the ERNC.

Crow Pass Trail

5/12/26:  There is still significant snow up in Crow Pass and recent reports of avalanche activity. Hiking on the Girdwood side is still NOT recommended yet! To get an idea of how much snow could be in Crow Pass, check out the Alyeska Webcam for Glacier Bowl Express (they are about the same elevation).  There is currently snow up at the top of Glacier Bowl Express. You can also check out avalanche reports and conditions when they start reporting on the Chugach National Forest Avalanche Center.  The last ~1 miles stretch of road to the trailhead is NOT MAINTAINED in the winter.

On the Eagle River side of the trail, conditions are pretty good.  Snow is melting fast and trails are mostly snow free, but do expect lingering snow patches and mud past Echo Bend. Eagle River water levels appear to be about normal for this time of year (on the low side).

The trail is not marked past Echo Bend on the Nature Center side, so if it's still snow covered, it can be hard to follow.

These are reports from trail users. We cannot and do not guarantee trail conditions on any given day/time. Trail conditions change daily, especially the river depth at the ford site. Be prepared for anything from knee to waist deep. If you are not comfortable crossing, turn around and go back the way you came. You should be prepared for any kind of weather (rain, snow, sun, fog) and wildlife (bears/moose). Always carry a map for navigation, the trail is not marked.
